About Browser "Connection Spamming" ----------------------------------- Many browser "optimizer" or "tweak" programs will cause your browser to open multiple connections to the target web server. While this may manifest a small speed increase for you, it really hurts the web server, as the additional connections it could be using to serve someone else are now tied up by your web browser. These settings are in violation of the HTTP recommendations and as such, some sites may ban your IP address or you may see a lot of broken images or other errors. Here's how to restore your browser to the safe defaults: Firefox / SeaMonkey ------------------- If you're using Mozilla Firefox or similar, type about:config into the address bar and look for the following settings. Right click on them and select RESET to restore them to the default. network.http.max-connections network.http.max-connections-per-server network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server NOTE: If you have a plugin called 'FasterFox', this will alter the default values of these settings and you will not be able to reset them. I recommend you disable FasterFox and reset these settings to their default. If you do not wish to disable FasterFox, try setting it to 'Courteous' mode. Internet Explorer ----------------- If you're using Internet Explorer, following thse steps: From the Start Menu, choose Run, and type: regedit Hit OK, then browse to the following key in the registry editor: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings If they exist, delete these values on the right hand side: MaxConnectionsPerServer MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server Opera 9 ------- Use the Tools, Preferences menu. Switch to the Advanced tab and select Network from the list. There you will see a maximum connections option where you can change the number of connections to 2 or 4. Thank you for your cooperation.
